Privacy

This is what we collect when you use starsync.dev and our tools, and what we do with it. It's short because there isn't much.
What we collect
The contact form. When you send us a message we store your name, email, subject and message, the time you sent it, and your IP address and browser details (to help us spot spam). The message is kept in our database and emailed to us so we can reply. We use it only to answer you.
Server logs. Like any website, our server records the IP address, the pages requested and the time. We keep these for security and debugging, and only for a limited time. The site runs behind Cloudflare, which passes visits on to our server and protects it from attacks.
Visitor stats. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how the site is used, so we can make it better: which pages are viewed, which site sent you here, your country, your browser and type of device, and how fast the pages loaded. It uses no cookies, stores nothing in your browser, doesn't follow you to other sites and doesn't build a profile of you. More in Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Cookies
We only use what the site needs to work: one cookie that keeps forms secure (and keeps you logged in, once accounts exist), and your light/dark choice saved in your browser. No advertising or tracking cookies, so there's nothing to accept or reject (our visitor stats don't use cookies at all, see above).
That's why there's no cookie banner. If we ever add anything that tracks you, we'll add a banner with "Reject all" as easy to click as "Accept all", and update this page first.
Stored in your browser
These stay on your device. They are never sent to us.
- Your light or dark theme choice.
- Whether you paused the moving backgrounds.
- Which constellations you have found on the home page.
- Your Playground settings (speed, number of stars, colour, paused) and how far you have travelled.
You can clear all of it any time in your browser's site settings.
Web tools
The Bulk Data Generator and JSON to CSV run in your browser. Whatever you paste or generate is not uploaded to us. The API endpoints are separate: they only run if you call them yourself from your own code.
Overscan
Overscan only looks at your screen to work out colours, on your PC. Nothing you watch is saved or sent anywhere.
Overscan checks for a newer version once a day by default. You can change this to Weekly or Never in Settings > About > Updates, and Never means it makes no requests at all.
The check is a plain download of a small file from get.starsync.dev, and nothing about you or your PC is sent (no ID, no settings, no usage data). Like any web request, the server sees your IP address and the app version; we do not log or keep them for anything else.
Installers are downloaded from media.starsync.dev (Cloudflare), and an update is only installed if you click Update now or chose "Install when it closes". Portable copies only show a message and a link. Updates are signed by StarSync, and the app refuses anything that isn't.
The full Overscan terms and privacy are on their own page.
Ads, analytics and your rights
No ads, and we don't sell data. The only stats we keep are the cookie-free visitor counts described under "What we collect".
You can ask us to show you the messages we hold from you, or delete them, by writing to [email protected].
Where we are
We work with people anywhere in the world.
